First, don't forgot about our New Host training this Sunday (1/7/07)
and every Sunday at 9:30 in the Fellowship Hall.
Just a few tips and notes:
Hot Topics
You may stumble over a hot topic like "predestination" in Ephesians 1:11.
Here's a rule of thumb. Give 2-5 minutes to any hot topic, especially if you are
in a new group. This keeps your discussion on track. Also, hot-topics tend to be
off-topics. Session 1 is not about predestination, but Identity Theft. We should
always try to keep the main thing, the main thing.
Read Ahead
The most important thing you can do for the first few sessions is read ahead.
Become familiar with where the problems and issues are. Decide what you will and
will not skip. It will make your small group experience even better!
Adaptability
The workbook is meant to be adapted to several types of groups at several
levels. Some may prefer the bible study portion and others prefer the Leader
Reader and Group Reader and questions. Adapt this curriculum to your group. We
do encourage that new groups take advantage of the Readers, and all groups
should make it to Unleash.
3 - 2 - 1 = Takeaway Truth
This new format of Bible study is a real learning curve for our groups. For
instance, there is a question for "1" on page 14 that says, "...decide what is
the 1 difficulty or struggle you have in verses 3-14?" Several may have problems
with this question. As they work through the exercise, some might feel awkward,
or struggle to find a problem they have with the verse. Let me encourage you
that if you can't find a problem, then simply move on. It's
that easy! There is no secret formula or Da Vinci Code to this workbook. Of
course, recognizing the problem is helpful for your bible study and we hope you
do. So think of the “1” problem a different way. What is the problem between
what the bible says and how you are living your life? There is a big difference
between what the Bible says, and the way we live.
